Producing App Demo Videos
Video marketing is effective. Just look at some statistics.
- Including video on a landing page can increase conversion by 80%
- Video in an email leads to 200-300% increase in click-through rate
- 65% of executives visit the marketer’s website and 39% call a vendor after viewing a video
Video helps drive engagement, so it’s a crucial tool for marketers. It’s particularly great for educating customers about your software product or showing visitors how to accomplish tasks on your website. There are many ways to produce great videos that do this, but they come with different price tags and they serve different goals. Here are the kinds of videos we produce most often.
Goal #1: Make a website or software demo video to wow a crowd
In order to promote a new or improved software product or website, we can re-create views of the software or site in After Effects. This allows us to zoom way in on the interface to show data entry, how widgets can be moved around, etc. It also allows the whole interface to turn on an axis, allowing us to make dynamic, yet detailed videos. You can also combine this type of footage with interviews or client testimonials to create a compelling, fast-paced video.
Goal #2: Make “how to” videos inexpensively
We can also combine simplified After Effects animation or Camtasia footage with infographic animation. Camtasia is a relatively inexpensive product that allows users to record their actions on a computer. For instance, you could record a 1920 x 1080 video of a user adding a product to the shopping cart, creating an account and finishing the transaction. We can then take that footage and edit it so that a process that takes two or three minutes in real time only takes one in the video. Infographic animated segments give the you the ability to talk about the benefits of your product in a fun, visually appealing way while Camtasia footage shows how a software product or website actually works.
“How to” videos allow for economies of scale so a series can be quick and economical to produce. You can use Camtasia or a similar program to record someone completing a number of tasks in a software program or website, then edit to compress the video for time. Next, we can record professional narration for multiple videos at once and add music and a reusable animated open and close to each to create series of polished, professional videos. You could even provide employees to serve as voice-over talent to keep costs ultra low.
All videos can benefit from professionally recorded narration, music and sound effects, and demo videos are no exception. Whether your goal is to wow an audience new to your product or help guide users so that they have a good experience, video can help.
